Earlier he has received his Doctor of Medicine (M.B.B.S) degree from Dhaka University, Bangladesh in 1992, Master of Public Health degree from Harvard University School of Public Health in 1997 and Doctor of Philosophy degree from UAB School of Public Health in 2001.
He was awarded International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Short Training Fellowship Award at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School. Recipient of APHA-PHEHP Early Career Award in 2006, AACR Minority Serving Institution Faculty Scholar Award in 2008 and 2010, and Alabama Power Foundation “Outstanding Achievement Award” at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Rahman is a nationally awarded published author of his mother tongue- Bengali, and so far published 22 books in his native language (wikipedia page).
In the past, he was an NSF Computing Innovation Fellow and Assistant Research Scientist at the Dept. of Computer Science, Johns Hopkins University. My research was supported by the 2009 NSF/CRA Computing Innovation Postdoctoral Fellowship. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in October 2009, from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He is primarily interested in Cloud Computing, Computer Security, Secure Provenance, Trustworthy Databases and File Systems. He also introduced the notion of digital data waste – an area where his research has been covered by MIT Technology Review, cNET, and other media outlets.
His research is funded by grants from the Department of Homeland Security, the Office of Naval Research, a 2012 Google Faculty Research Award, and a 2012 Amazon Research Grant. In addition, he is a recipient of the 2013 Google RISE Award, 2013 the Best of Blogs and Online Activism Award for Innovation, and the 2013 Information Society Innovation Fund Award — all for Shikkhok.com.
